Hope Outreach is an integral part of Wayside’s daily ministry operations providing support for many of the ministries under the umbrella of Wayside Cross Ministries.

 

 

Hope Outreach Ministry manages and staffs:

• The Johannaber Ministry Center warehouse operations which processes donations of clothing, furniture, electronics, small appliances, house wares, books, and toys
• The Wayside fleet of vehicles which provide transportation for our residents, staff, volunteers and facilitates pick ups of large donations in the Fox Valley area
• The ministry's physical plant maintenance and housekeeping program
• The Hope Cest resale store
• Wayside's community outreach initiatives

Often, the "best teacher" is experience. The Work Rehabilitation Program at Hope Outreach is an on-the job learning environment. We prepare our residents for the workday world by placing them in it, right here at Wayside Cross.

The warehouse continues to provide the largest source of work for the men in our Master's Touch program. Changing lives in a spiritually safe work environment is just one way we teach the residents good work habits.

Many who turn to us have never held a steady job or understand how the workday world operates. Others need help to reenter the workforce. Stressing accountability, integrity and a Christian sense of purpose in work, Hope Outreach Ministry provides structured work experience and graduated job responsibilities. The results?

• Increased job skills
• A stronger work ethic
• Self-confidence

LAST YEAR'S HIGHLIGHTS

• 55 men at a time provided daily, real-life work experience
• 8 ministry vehicles maintained - averaging 5479 miles/month
• Scheduled, transported, sorted, and refurbished over 500,000 donated articles of clothing, furniture, household goods, and sundry items These items were sold at the Hope Chest and Sweet Charity resale stores or distributed to under-resourced men, women, and children in the community or within one of Wayside's ministries
• Provided 123 families in the community with furniture clothing and other basic needs through the Community Outreach program
• Assisted local churches with 44 referrals for clothing, house wares and furniture
• Collaborated with World Relief in Aurora to provide clothing and housewares for 57 refugee families
• 175+ winter coats were distributed to needy families and individuals through a partnership with the City of Aurora and the Aurora Public Schools
• 771 (700 lb.) bales of clothing and 1000+ bags of shoes were recycled
• Partnered with 20 local churches to host Compassion Drives, collecting items that could be used in our resale stores as well as the ministry
• Generated $504,260 income from Hope Chest and Sweet Charity stores and the recycling of scrap metal, paper and clothing.
• Cleaned and maintained the primary Wayside campus. Assisted Lifespring Center with maintenance as needed

The Hope Chest is located at the corner of North Lincoln Avenue and East New York Street in Aurora, and offers used clothing, accessories, shoes, bedding, household items, jewelry, glassware, toys, games, bikes, small furniture, small electronics and seasonal decorations.

The Hope Chest also has a variety of collectibles and antiques at very affordable prices.

DONATION DROP OFF: Due to construction of our new building the donation drop off point is no longer at the warehouse dock. You will now drop off in the Hope Chest Store parking lot at 36 N. Lincoln Avenue. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Drop off hours:

• Personnel on duty 9 AM - 4 PM, Monday through Saturday.
• PLEASE, do not leave donations after the hours of 9 AM - 4 PM
• No drop-offs on Sundays or after hours

Volunteers are welcome to help in our warehouse / store operations, but an even greater need exists in the maintenance of our buildings and grounds.

Drive Wayside’s truck to pick up donated items

• Monday- Saturday: half or full day commitment
• We will run DMV check & add you to Wayside’s insurance
